Below is just a small list of the little tasks just sitting around calling my name...
Returning emails - This one seems so easy, but yet, so difficult for me. I have emails from friends who contacted me back when Aubrey was born that I have yet to return. Laziness really is the reason for the delay, but come on...how long does it really take to type an email?
Letters - I haven't written a letter in ages. I know I owe my good pen pal, Chloe, one, and I certainly need to get my butt in gear and just write it.
Thank you notes - I did so well right when Aubrey was born in getting these out. Now I have about six just waiting to be written. Again, like the letters, I just need to kick my butt in gear. They'll be done before her first birthday, promise!
Engagement scrapbook - Would you believe I am just a few pages away from finishing this puppy? I mean, come on...we only got engaged on July 4, 2009. It's only a few years after that. I mean, I'll get around to it someday...and then maybe, just maybe, I'll finish our wedding book, too.
Wedding book - See above.
Honeymoon photo album - See above. Notice a trend here?
My book - what book? I was writing a book? Wait, what happened to that? I haven't opened that file in forever. I could look at the last date modified to see just how long it has been since I've done anything with it, but...yeah, I'm not going to do that. I might have to hang my head and cry if I dared to do that.
Reading a book - This is definitely something that is always on my list. I would love to get back into reading. Usually the only time I actually do read a book is when I go on a work trip just to have something to keep me entertained during a plane ride, but I don't have any trips coming up, so I have yet to really open a book this year, other than the few I have on babies and what to expect in the first year. So maybe I should be more specific: read a fiction book.
This list seems daunting to me. Perhaps it's not as bad as I think it is, but how do I even go about tackling it with day-to-day life being so crazy? How do you other busy moms out there do it? Seriously, suggestions are appreciated. God knows I need them!
You know, this would have made an excellent Motivation Monday post....
Ok, email? Just type a quick second or two then SEND, it's done, you feel accomplished. That is one of those things that is easier then it feels, just keep up with it. Delete anything that isn't pressing, let it go.
ReplyDeleteAs far as letters, photo books, thank you cards, I SUCK. I have no advise.
Books? Love them, read a ton, at least 20 minutes - 2 hours a night, depends on how awake or good the book is :) I can't imagine finding time in the day. And at night, if you are too tired, then sleep!!! You are raising a tiny baby, someday she will sleep better and you will have more time for books :)
Lastly? Give yourself a damn break!! I consider the first year survival mode, you need not accomplish much else then keeping your daughter alive & happy, that is enough! :)
Oh, I know what you're talking about. I have the same list (except for thank you notes). And I don't like loose ends either. Reading a book? Last time I opened a book was in July!! And didn't have time to finish that book! And then when I wanted to re-read the book in Christmas, I couldn't find it!!!
ReplyDeleteWriting letters? Ha! I had planned to write you a letter yesterday, but then MJ got sick and spent the rest of the day taking care of him and then taking him to the doctor. We came home at 11 pm.
I need more hours!!!
It all falls into place. People ask me how I manage with 4 kids (one that literally takes meds about 20 times a day), house stuff, errands, reading and writing... I just do. When things are important, you figure out a way to get them done, and it takes a little time to fall into the groove of things. Granted, I sleep about 3-4 hours a night, and it SUCKS, but it's what I have to do to get things accomplished and check things off of my list. I remember after we brought B home (the second time) and I had Finn at home (he's 2 and a holy terror) and the other two here and Chris was working and I called my friend with 4 kids and was like, "this is a joke right? People can't actually DO this..." It was so overwhelming, I had never felt like that before. I literally did not see how it could ever get any easier. But it has. And it's insane, but I manage. You will, too. :)
ReplyDeleteIf it's any consolation, I just got my nephew's birth announcement last week. He turned one in March. :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd Sprite's baby book is not finished, it covers to age 3. She's five and a half.
Sorry, this reminded me of a poem I wrote about Sprite's baby book or lack thereof..
