Now that life has calmed down a bit and the burden of the big health scare has been lifted, it's time to get back to the groove, and that starts with Monday. And Motivation Monday, no less!
Here's how it goes (for those of you who don't know the drill..). Just write a post about what is motivating you this week and link it up to this post by commenting and putting the link to your post in the comment. It can be about anything at all, and it doesn't have to just be on Monday. Link up any time this week and no pressure at all to participate!
So the exercise thing continues....this week, though, I'm focusing my motivation on something else: organization. See, I'm not the most organized person. I'm pretty haphazard most of the time when it comes to putting things away. Sure, the house looks clean, but it's because the closet doors are closed and you can't see what's behind them. You can't see the drawers crammed full of pajamas, underwear and the dresser with t-shirts just shoved in. T, on the other hand, is very organized. Some might call it anal retentive, but...we're kind of like the odd couple when it comes to organization. And with us moving into a new home in about a month, I've decided that I need to try to follow his example.
So I've decided that when I have a little time, I am tackling one small project at a time. This past Saturday, we had the afternoon free so I attacked our linen closet. Seriously, it looked like a hoarders closet. Totally not organized, and things just shoved in the closet. You could barely close the door, and when you opened it, finding what you need? Impossible. So I took everything out, went through it. Folded everything we would take to the new house and bagged up stuff we can get rid of for Goodwill.
Sunday night I decided to clean out my bra drawer, and I'm embarrassed to say, I got rid of like 3/4ths of it. Most of them were so old, I wouldn't dream of wearing them. I mean, sure, T and I are in that comfortable stage now that we're married, but come on...I should still at least try, right? (Probably about too much info, but...) And I could barely close that drawer, too. (See a pattern here?) So that drawer is cleaned out. Next step? Socks, underwear, t-shirts and pajamas. I'll get rid of a lot in the progress, but the way I see it, this will help save us time when we move.
I do need T's help with my infamous bag of cords. It's this mattress bag I have used to transport random cords I have accumulated since college - cable cords, phone cords, extension cords. Hell, I think my old answering machine is in there somewhere. It's in our front closet, and well, it's embarrassing. Odds are we probably don't need any of the items in there, but we do need to go through it. That will be quite the task.
So I'm motivated to organize...what about you? What's motivating you this week?

I love organizational tasks. I also started organizing this past weekend. All my drawers got cleaned out, and I started on the basement. Good luck to you with your organizing! Doesn't it feel great when you finish it?

I am very happy to hear that everything is good to go in the heath department.. that is awesome... I know how you feel about not being organized.. I am the world's worst! I need to clean out my drawers too, but I did recently clean out my closet!

I need to do that for my house. I've got a week off work coming up, so I'm hoping to get closets and drawers gone through... we'll see.

Sounds like the way John's office used to be. It's so nice in there now, I actually spent time in there last night with him! I usually never go in there!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this post! Exactly what I needed to read to get me ready to rock this spring! Thanks and super happy about your health news!!

My motivation is at the end of this post: http://life-of-aj.blogspot.com/2011/03/todays-clothes-and-motivation-monday.html
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping I can stick to it! Didn't get much done today besides the doctor's visit... :/
You've definitely got the right idea - starting small. Now that my husband has been staying home with his dad, he's got a million projects lined up. But the thought of everything at once is paralyzing. Now he's breaking them down and getting a lot more done.
ReplyDeleteYou're so smart, getting rid of things before you move!
The more I get to know you and hear about you and T the more I find similarities to me and my hubby :-) He's super organized and I'm not. My drawers are exactly as you described yours. It's funny. I've been super motivated to organize too lately! On Saturday I organized under our bathroom sink. It was terrible.
